Brian Daboll answers Bill Belichick’s criticism of Giants

Giants coach Brian Daboll has responded to Bill Belichick’s recent critiques about his team.
The six-time Super Bowl champion tore the Giants to shreds in the span of just 54 seconds in an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday — questioning everything from the Saquon Barkley contract drama to the makeup of their offensive line (specifically the decision to start Josh Ezeudu at left tackle on Sunday).

Asked about this before Thursday’s practice, Daboll — who was on Belichick’s staff in New England for seven years — first asked reporters to, “fill (him) in” on the context, before he offered a harmless rebuttal.
“I would say that my focus is on our team,” Daboll said. “And we do everything we can do to be as good as we can be. Look, there are things we’ve got to do better. But I can’t focus on the outside.”
That’s about the kind of coach-speak answer you’d expect from a Belichick disciple.
But Daboll is right not to respond. His team is now 2-5 after losing to the Eagles at home last week and they must focus on the task at hand: The 5-2 Pittsburgh Steelers — who are undoubtedly ready to take advantage of the Giants’ offensive line woes with their league-best pass rush.
For a while it seemed like Belichick, who won two Super Bowls as Giants defensive coordinator in 1986 and 1990, might be the Giants’ prized coaching candidate if they moved on from Daboll after the season, co-owner John Mara said he does not “anticipate” any changes coaching or GM coming after the season.
“Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now,’’ Mara said Wednesday night. “But I’m gonna say one thing, we are not making any changes this season and I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either.”
